Places to Visit


There are so many places to visit in Rameswaram.Rameswaram is fully surrounded by lots and lots of temples and Theerthas (holy water).  Let us see some of the popular places around the Rameswaram.

Kothandaramar Temple


From Epic, this is the place where Vibishana, brother of Raavana surrendered to Lord Rama. Later Lord Rama announced Vibishana as the King of Lanka. The idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Lord Hanuman can be seen in this temple. Kothandaramar Temple is placed 10 – 15 Kms away from Ramanathaswamy temple. It is situated on the way to Danuskodi.



Jadayu Theertham


Jadayu, the king of all Birds, who fought with Raavana when he Kidnapped Sita. During their war Raavana cut the wings of lord Jadayu. Jadayu fallen down in this place only.  It is about 5 – 7 Kms from the Ramanathaswamy temple. Jadayu Theertham is also situated on the way to Dhanuskodi.

Moonram Chathiram

Moonram Chathiram is a Sea Shore place. It has very long beach over 6 Kms. It is very entertainment place for children as well as adult. The Road to Danuskodi ends here. It is about 15 – 20 Kms from the Main Temple.



Dhanuskodi


Dhanuskodi is one of the important place to visit in Rameswaram. Dhanuskodi is the southern tip of island where Arabian sea and Bay Bengal meet together and become one sea. It is fantastic place to see. Dhanuskodi was completely washed away by the cyclone in 1964. It is 25 Kms away from the Ramanathaswamy temple.




How to Reach Dhanuskodi : We can take Auto upto Moonram Chathiram. From there Vans will be available to take us to Danuskodi. The fare for Van is from  Rs. 100 – 150 (one Way) per person. Else we can take jeep from Rameswaram. It cost around Rs 800 -1000.

Now road is extended from Moonram Chathiram till Arichal Munai (Dhaushkodi). Arichal Munai is the place where the two seas join together.


Ganthamana Parvatham




Ganthamana Parvatham is a Hillock temple situated 7 -10 Kms to the north of the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. In this temple, the foot print of Lord rama is worshipped. It is the Highest point of Rameswaram Island.


Sukreevar Temple and Theertham

On the way to Ganthamana Parvatham, there is a temple and Theertha for Sukreeva  brother of Vaali. Sukreeva is the king of Kishkintha who helped Lord Rama duing the battle against Raavana.

Five Faced Hanuman


In this temple, Lord Hanuman idol is with Five Face and adonered with senthooram. Also in this temple we have floating Stone. The Stone which will float in water and believe that this stone only used by Rama to build the bridge (Sethu Bridge or Adam Bridge) between Rameswaram and Srilanka. It is situated on the way to Bus stand. About 2 Kms from Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple.


Viloondi Theertham

From ancient epic, This theertha was formed from bow of Lord Rama. Lord Rama blew is bow into the sea to create a good drinking water in order to overcome the thirst of Sita. This Theertha is present inside the sea, but the water is so tasty.

Olakudai Beach

This Beach is situated back side of the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple where we can spend the evening time here. Also we have boat services in the Agni Theertha Sea. The boat take us upto 3 Kms inside the Sea.

D.R A.P.J Abdul Kalam House

D.R A.P.J Abdul Kalam is the Ex- President of india and also very famous Aerospace engineer. He was awarded with Bharat Ratna which is one of the highest award of India. He is famous for his invention Agni Missile and very favourite person for the Kids and inspiration for the youth of India.
