Around Rameswaram


There are so many places around Rameswaram. Some of the places devotees must visit along with Rameswaram.

Pamban Bridge


Rameswaram is an island, fully surrounded by sea. Rameswaram island is connected to the India by both road and rail bridge. The Train track which is connecting the Rameswaram mainland is about 2.06 KM. It is the India’s first sea bridge and also cantilever bridge. Pamban railway bridge was built in the year 1913.The bridge is constructed in such a way it opens into two, for large ships to cross the sea. The bridge is constructed around 150 pillars.


Pamban Road Bridge


The road bridge was inaugurated in the year 1988. It took around 14 years to complete the construction.  The bridge is 2.5 Kms in length and 25 meters in height. The bridge was named as Indhira Gandhi Bridge.
The Pamban bride is about 13 kms from the Rameswaram.




Devipattinam


Devipattinam is famously known as Navagraha Pashanam. Here only we can find the Navagrahas inside the sea. These 9 Navagrahas was built and worshiped by Lord Rama before going to Srilanka. There is a belief that the sin of devotees will get expiate by worshiping these navagrahas. There is a bridge is constructed on the sea to reach the idols.
Devipattinam is about 66 kms from the Rameswaram.

Uthirakosaimangai

Uthiram means  “Updesham” , Kosam means “Secrets” and Mangai points the Lord Parvathi. Uthirakosamangai is the place where Lord Shiva taught all secrets of Vedas to Lord Parvathi. Lord Shiva is the main deity here and called as Mangalanathar and parvathi is called as mangaleshwari. Special Poojas are conducted during Pradhosam days in the evening to big Nandhi which is in outer Prakaram (way).
  The Most important attraction in the temple is Lord shiva idol is made up of emerald. The idol is about 5 ½ feet tall. The idol was fully covered with sandal paste. Only in the tamil month of margazhi and during tiruvathirai nakshatram (star)  in margazh(i.e in the month of December) the sandal paste will be removed and abhishekam will be conducted to the idol. In these days, the special dharsan  known as Arudhra darishnam is held. Lakhs of devotees will visit during these days.

Thirupullani

Thirupullani is about 56 kms from the Rameswaram. Also it situated on the way to th divya desam of Lord Vishnu. The main Lord Vishnu is called as Aadi Jagannatha Perumal temple. If they worship Kalyana nadar,the idol present in the temple is good for those who are not having child and for devotees whose wedding are delayed.

Sethukarai


Sethu Karai is about 59 Kms from Rameswaram and 5 kms from the thirupullani. It is believed that Lord Rama built the famous Sethu bridge (Adam’s Bridge) over the sea to reach the Srilanka. Also there is a talk that still this brideg exists and we can see through sateliete.
